Prayer, Fasting and Action needed on 3 Abortion Bills

On March 15, 2023, the Colorado Senate passed the pro-abortion bill package deceptively entitled,  “Safe Access to Protected Health Care.” The three bills are now in the House of Representatives where they will each receive a committee hearing on Tuesday, March 28th. These hearings will be the last opportunity for the public to testify against this extreme legislation. SB 190 and SB 188 will be heard in House Judiciary Committee, while SB 189 will be heard in House Health and Insurance Committee.

Abortion Bill #1:

Please OPPOSE SB23-188 Protections for Accessing Reproductive Health Care. This bill interferes with relationships between insurers and health care providers, as well as health care entities and providers. It violates First Amendment rights by prohibiting insurers from imposing sanctions, fines, rate increases, or policy cancelation, as they deem necessary for medical malpractice, in the areas of abortion or gender transitions. It interferes with hospitals and other health care entities’ abilties to prohibit their providers from performing abortions or gender transition surgeries that may be contrary to the religious mission of the hospital. The bill also interferes with criminal investigations between states. Imagine if one parent, outside of Colorado and against the other parent’s wishes and rights, takes their minor child to Colorado for gender transition surgery. This bill would prohibit the state of Colorado from cooperating in the investigation of custody issues with the out-of-state minor child. These are only a few examples of the many problems with this bill. Please OPPOSE SB23-188 Protections for Accessing Reproductive Health Care.

Abortion Bill #2:

Please OPPOSE SB23-190 Deceptive Trade Practice Pregnancy-related Service. According to 2010 census data, 62 percent of Planned Parenthood abortion facilities are within walking distance of neighborhoods that are at least 50 percent Black; 33 percent are within neighborhoods that are at least 50 percent Hispanic. In the US, 36 percent of all abortions are performed on Black women, even though Blacks make up only 13 percent of the population. All women who are pregnant, deserve information on their options, including adoption, as well as all of the practical resources available to them if they decide to keep their child. Preventing Crisis Pregnancy Centers from making this information available, is a violation of their Constitutionally-protected First Amendment rights. This bill would also limit information about using progesterone to interfere with, and possibly reverse, a chemical abortion. It has been done successfully and is therefore a reasonable possibility and a choice a pregnant woman should have. This bill would take away a woman’s right to choose. Please OPPOSE SB23-190 Deceptive Trade Practice Pregnancy-related Service.

Abortion Bill #3:

Please OPPOSE SB 23-189 Increasing Access to Reproductive Care.  This bill attempts to undermine the Colorado Constitution’s prohibition to publicly fund abortion.  It will place an ever-greater burden on larger employer companies, as well as smaller employer companies with federal mandates, to provide FULL coverage of abortions for its employees. This will severely impact other lifesaving procedures that may arise for employees and their insurance coverage. Additionally, this bill eliminates parental authority as it will allow minors younger than 19 years old to seek “reproductive care” without parental consent. Please OPPOSE SB 23-189 Increasing Access to Reproductive Care.

Update: HB 23-1003 School Mental Health Assessment

HB 23-1003 passed the House and is heading over to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.  This bill has not been assigned a date at this time.

Action Alert: Urge the Department of Education to Protect Faith-Based Campus Groups (American Family Association)

President Biden and the Department of Education want to rescind the “Free Inquiry Rule,” which requires universities and colleges to respect and protect the First Amendment rights of faith-based campus groups.

Christian organizations could be banned from university property and be falsely labeled as a “hate group” if its charter or membership rules were based solely on the tenants of the Christian faith.

It is urgent that you act now as the Department of Education is only accepting comments from the public until Friday, March 24.

 TAKE ACTION

Submit your comment to the Department of Education, urging it to not remove protections for faith-based campus groups. We have provided a sample comment for you to submit.
